Beyoncé x Olivier Rousteing / Balmain
Beyoncé x Olivier Rousteign/Balmain
What is happening? Beyoncé, in my opinion, just randomly designed a couture collection with Balmain/Olivier Rousteing, every piece representing a song from her Renaissance album.
My first thought is its great couture, it’s the perfect Designer Brand to collaborate with, with this vision. The whole collection is displayed in and in collaboration with Vogue France, which is also a perfect match, conceptual it all makes sense.
Second thought, but why? Well to answer my own question, we wanted visuals, and the visuals have arrived. It’s what Olivier said in this post
… sharing both arts : music and Fashion together.

Balmain said this collection started when Olivier shared a whole lot of sketches inspired by Beyoncé’s Renaissance album, with Beyoncé. At first, there wasn’t a plan to make a collection together but they quickly saw an opportunity to express their art in a collection as co-designers. It’s an exclusive collection for and by one of Balmain’s muses: Beyoncé. The two and their teams created a space to experiment, dream and push each other to the max, with the result: A couture collection.
Olivier said that the Renaissance album is more than an album to him, and I believe that’s true because I’ve been listening closely ever since the album came out, it’s not only freeing to the queer community, in my opinion. It’s a liberating sound for many people including myself. It’s feminine to me, it’s chic, and it makes noise, but we’re not yelling. Olivier said it’s strength, and yes, music, in general, strengthens me, but this album especially. I’m that girl! Olivier said it’s about love and battle, that’s life Olivier and you know it.
“When Beyoncé first released RENAISSANCE, she mentioned that she hoped that she would inspire all of us “to release the wiggle.” Actually, she managed to push me to release a whole lot more than that! Her spirit, tunes, commitments and messages pushed me to expand my fashion vision, triggering a tidal wave of new ideas, non-stop sketching, and a hunger to experiment with new techniques. I will be forever grateful to her for all of that inspiration. And I am especially thankful that she agreed to partner with me as the co-designer of this new RENAISSANCE couture collection.” -Olivier
As has been said, every couture look represents a song, so there are 16 looks representing the whole album. I think this collection also brought out the best in Olivier as he stated in one of his Instagram posts. I think that stepping outside your own creative thinking process does make you better. Olivier really sounds very thankful for this opportunity, I can imagine.
“Olivier is a dream collaborator and a constantly innovating and evolving creative. All that he has done as a Black designer in breaking down and opening doors has been inspiring. From our very first meeting, to his designs over the years for my performances and appearances, I knew one day I would work with him on a collection. I am so proud of what we created and the synergy that formed between our teams.” —Beyoncé
This whole collection is for us to see, hopefully, one day in the MET or rather in the Fashion department of The Louvre, just a thought, but for now in Vogue France. March 29 in the stands. It’s a cover story! It’s the first time Beyoncé was on the cover of Vogue France, can you imagine? An established music artist, one of the most hardworking mothers on planet earth, she has been rewarded for her work many times, but never on the cover of Vogue France.
As for the collaboration, of course, it takes two masterminds to make the work, but a whole lot of people to make it happen. To make their vision come alive. Olivier explicitly mentioned working alongside Beyoncé’s stylist from what I’ve read. @marnixmarni Marni Senofonte, because stylists do half the work if you’d ask me. The stylist makes the vision come alive. As do, hairstylists/makeup artists, photographers, art directors, and the list goes on. Another person to mention is the creative director of Parkwood entertainment(Beyoncé’s production/management group): Andrew Makadsi. Eugénie Trochu the head of editorial content at Vogue France. Who made it possible for the audience to see the art.
The pieces
Let me play a game, 16 songs, 16 looks, let’s connect. Song 1 to 16, the couture look that matches the song, to me.

That is that, I found out that I only got one match! So glad that I am a blogger and not a designer, but I got it though. *laughing so hard inside*
– It is an amazing and unmatched collaboration between two creative masterminds, who just wanted to exhibit their vision, it’s music that comes alive. Wearable art –
